Subject: Haptics-e Survey Results Now that some other deadlines have cleared, I'm back to "Haptics-e". Here are the results of the survey. First, we need to define the journal - what topics will we seek to publish? I asked people to list topics to be included, and also, in order to sharpen the focus, topics to be excluded. In compiling the lists below, I have lumped some topics together. The topics receiving more than 1 vote were: IN votes Electromechanical Design, incl: mechatronics, mechanics, devices 14 Psychophysics, incl: human factors sensory/motor interaction, neurophysiology, biological, psychology 13 Software, incl: haptic rendering, textures, haptic visualization 10 End User Applications 6 Simulation of Mechanical Sys., incl: real-time dynamics 5 Integration with other senses 4 Control 3 Safety 3 Graphics / Remote operation 2 OUT votes VR without haptics 6 Robotics or Control w/o Human 5 Commercials 2 Non-Experimental work 2 Telerobotics w/o haptics 2 (For the complete list, and earlier emails, please see: http://rcs.ee.washington.edu/CR/Haptics-e/) I also asked for general feedback on issues and concerns. Although fewer people responded, the replies were extremely thoughtful and important. All of these issues were raised by one person except the issue of Professional Society Affiliation which was raised by three people. Issues and Concerns Prof. Society Affiliation 3 votes Biologists: careful to include more Breadth: Keep open to wide range of fields Careful Archiving Link to Haptics Community WWW page Manipulation = Touch ??
